The placebo pills do absolutely nothing. They are there to keep you in the habit of taking the pill everyday, and you can skip them with no consequence as long as you remember to start your next pack on time. How that week works for protection depends on the type of pill you have. I suggest reading the instructional insert that comes with them to be sure how your specific type works. Most commonly, you are protected during the placebo week because the active pills build up in your system. The active pills give you a blanket protection during the placebo week as the built up hormone slowly leaves your system. You need to start the next pack on time to prevent the level of the hormone in your system from dropping below what is considered "fully protected." Again, that placebo week only helps you remember to start the next pill pack and habituate taking the pill everyday, but aren't necessary.
Help! Do the Placebo pills on the birth control month not have you protected?
Do placebo pills in a birth control pill pack actually help prevent pregnancy or are they basically doing nothing? and why is it that you dont need another form of protection after the first 7 days (or however long the doc told you), theoretically speaking, even while on the placebo? Someone plz help me understand
