Natural or epidural?

I want to have a natural high with this baby. Mamas who have what do you suggest for pain management? Also how bad does it hurt to tear without medicine like what’s it feel like? I’m terrified lol

I had the epidural but they shut it off when it was time for me to push so I felt everything lmao so I got the best of both worlds I guess

I went completely natural with my first and plan to again. It was such an amazing experience for me, and for my husband. I suggest reading about breathing exercises to do while in labor and when pushing. This time I plan to “breathe the baby down” instead of pushing since my first time I spent so much of my precious energy on pushing hard that I hardly remember that part and just wanted it to be over. Essential oils can also help with breathing and focusing your mind, but make sure you buy 100% therapeutic grade and not the ones cut with artificial stuff at the drug stores. Pinterest is my best friend for finding blogs on natural childbirth. Also Ina May Gaskin’s work is so inspirational.

You have to decide if you want natural or not. Most people these days seem to want natural which is fine, myself on the other hand I was all for that epidural. For me that was the best option because I’d rather not feel the pain. I enjoyed every single second of my labor and delivery and didn’t have any pain whatsoever once I had my epidural. For some it works wonders for others not so much so unfortunately not everyone will or has the perfect experience I did. But I got it and I couldn’t feel my contractions really I just felt the slightest tightening but I didn’t even notice that if I wasn’t thinking about it. I didn’t have any pain when pushing just some pressure, I was sill able to move my legs slightly even though they felt super heavy, I never needed a catheter, I only was in labor for a total of 9 hours from start to finish. And it only took me 30 minutes to push my LO out. I had a 2nd degree tear which I didn’t feel and they stitched me up which again I didn’t feel. They stopped the epidural after I delivered and in 2 hours when they went to transfer me to a different room I was able to stand on my own and walk. If you want to go natural by all means please do but don’t be afraid to get meds or an epidural if you need it. I just know people are always sharing their terrible experiences with epidurals and no one shares the good experiences so I just wanted to share mine for you.

i would say do as much research as possible on both options, I did epidural but labored naturally for 8 hours I had horrible back labor and couldnt take the pain any longer but plan to try to go lon next time. however you also need to realize this is just a possibility for you as labor can go in a thousand directions and you need to be prepared to not follow your original plan. more than likely it will go perfectly for you but always be prepared and to just go with the flow sometimes our plans change and that's okay as long as the end result is a happy healthy mom and baby! good luck

For me , the most painful part is the cervix opening.   Pushing is so much more guided and less painful . You can scream, poop , tear but trust me when you hear o can see the head , the pain just goes away and your mind just want to finish the job .

I recommend a birthing pool if that resource is available to you. Other than that, work on your breathing and listen to your body. I sat on a yoga ball and moved my hips around. I laid in bed when I needed to. I walked when I needed to. I was in the birthing pool for a while though. As for tearing, I couldn’t even feel it. The excitement distracted from that. I didn’t even know I tore because I was just happy and holding my baby.

I tapped out a steady rhythm with my hand and focused on breathing. It helped that I was tapping out the ABCs and mentally singing, "Next time won't you sing with me!" while imagining my baby someday singing with me!

You’ve had some great recommendations for a natural birth on this thread. I did an epidural, but it ran out before my daughter was born. I felt all the pushing and was definitely all endorphins afterwards. I was able to enjoy the labor and still be up and moving easily immediately after. If you decide to use pain management, talk to your team and see if they can reduce it or turn it off as you get more “in the zone”.
