Tampons and burning urethra?

So I equally hate using pads and tampons. Pads because I walk A LOT at work so blood will go up places it shouldn't be. I also hate tampons because everytime I use them my urethra begins to burn when I pee. Does anyone else experience this burning and knows what it is?

There are a couple things it could be. One, it could be a small microtear that formed near the urethra from when you inserted the tampon. When you pee, it could be the microtear stinging or burning. Two, it could be a mechanical inflammation or irritation in your urethra from the tampon string pressing against it throughout the day. Three, it could be a bacterial inflammation or irritation from bacterial accumulation on the string throughout the day. Four, it could be a chemical inflammation or irritation from the chemicals within the tampon that you may be unknowingly allergic to. What I (since I don't know how you do things haha) would do is I would first make sure I am gently inserting the tampon, preferably with a plastic applicator as it's a bit gentler. If you are eco-conscious, a cardboard applicator may require a lubricant first. If you are super eco-conscious, definitely lubricate the area a little before inserting a dry tampon. Then, make sure you change the tampon every 4 hours minimum to reduce bacterial accumulation (not just reducing toxic shock syndrome). Thennn, if you are already doing all that, switch your tampons to unscented, chemical-free, organic cotton tampons. If even all thaaaat doesn't work, then get a cup, girl. It's hard to get the hang of it at first, but it's worth it. You may need lube and you may need to try out a variety of folds to insert, but it is definitely a life changer. :) Good luck!

The urethra is not where the talon goes so that has nothing to do with it. Maybe try using a different brand! I’d look into a menstrual cup too. I’ve never used one but it’s an alternative to pads and tampons
