PUMPED MILK STASH ISSUES

Dana

I have approx 4 L pumped and frozen in bags with 5 oz in each bag. I try to rotate and freeze new stuff every few months so the milk in the freezer is no older than 3 months. Recently my little guy is refusing to drink my milk stash milk. After he refused reheated milk and was happy to have a fresh boob juice I smelled the milk and it had a very distinct odour to it. After reading up breastmilk has a LIPASE enzyme and if you produce high amounts it causes the milk to have a funny odour and taste after time/freezing. The milk is perfectly fine for baby however some will refuse to drink it.

For all you mammas out there making a milk stash you can scald the milk before freezing which stops this from happening. I am devastated that all the milk I have stashed he refuses to eat. I’ve even tried tricking him by mix half with fresh breastmilk or mixing into his porridge but he won’t take it 😩
