1st time to dentist?

When do you all bring your LO to the dentist for their 1st exam? It's open enrollment for insurance and trying to figure out if we even need dental for our daughter yet.

wow! everyone else goes so late! my Dr told me about 6 months after her first teeth, so about a year for us. it's probably more to get them used to the idea of it though.

I just emailed my dentist about this! They said once the first tooth is in unless anything concerning with her gums show up.
However, dental insurance was required with my health plan, and it has two free visits per year. So, I plan to take her in at about 3 months regardless. It's a free checkup for her gums, can't hurt!

As soon as the first tooth pops up! It’s mainly to get the kids accustomed to dental visits.

I recommend taking your baby with you to your appointment a few months after their first tooth pops up, just to get them used to their new dentist and so it's a fun experience! They can take a "ride" in the chair and the dentist can talk to them. Just so it doesn't have to be a scary place!

My dentist said my baby doesn’t need to go until around his 3rd birthday unless I notice weird stuff like discoloring.

Depends on teeth. I was told with my oldest to wait until all the basic teeth are in. My youngest is now 20.5 months and she hasn’t gotten her teeth that are before the molars in. But she just got her two bottom 1 year old molars in.

My daughter went a little after she turned 3. Her dr said there wasn’t any need to take her before her third birthday. She did great!

Lol my daughter was 5.5! She was calm and I was able to explain to her what was going to happen. I can’t imagine taking a baby. I’d say 3-5 is easier. But everyone’s different, to each their own.
