Should Catalonia be independent from Spain?

I’m super interested in following this story. My understanding is that Catalans are a distinct ethnic group with their own language and customs living within the borders of other countries, primarily Spain. This union goes all the way back to the marriage of Ferdinand and Isabella. 
It appears that one of the biggest logistical issues with Catalan independence is that they’re spread throughout territory of multiple countries, not just Spain, and that division of resources for a self sustaining state will be tricky. That said, if they want independence, I don’t see a forced unity as beneficial to anyone.

of course - I can understand why, Catalonia pays more in taxes than they receive, and have a different culture and labguage to the rest of Spain. The Spanish government are clinging to Catalonia because of Barcelona. Ironically, the UK, along with the rest of the EU, have sided with Spain.. I wonder how many Scots are rolling their eyes

Every Catalonian I know wants independence. I honestly don’t know enough about the circumstances to make an educated decision on this, but if the majority want out then they should be able to vote and begin the steps to do so. I can see the EU situation being very challenging though. 
Also, sports-wise, I’m curious what their football (soccer) squad would look like and whether FIFA would accept Catalonia or whether the two would play as one country. I can’t see FIFA accepting the giants of Spain losing talent.

I have always been an independentist and I personally don't feel Spanish at all. Spanish government doesn't represent me. Plus, they have never supported our language planning politics or anything related to protect our culture; they have always repressed us and denied our nation. They haven't respected our will nor our decisions. In Spain, there is still a law that protects francoist (fascist) criminals. Democracy is a joke. PP (the political party who is ruling nowadays) is the most corrupted party in Europe (900 people accused, some being jutged since 2007). Etc, etc.
Let me compile the info and links to prove my statements; I'll send them all as soon as possible.
By the way, I'm so happy because today, Catalonia is officially an independent country. I've been celebrating all evening and plan to protect the republic from the streets on the following days.

I said yes, I don’t see any reason why to stay with Spain. The same thing with the Kurds in northern Iraq.

As far as I know, the majority did not support independence (that's why turn out was so low, only supporters voted, because the vote was technically illegal), though that may have changed.
I don't know, it's a complicated question. But I do think that independence votes should never be done on a slim majority basis, because it's such a big change and you don't want something like Brexit where half the country is in favor, and half against. It breeds bad feelings all around. I think the best thing to do would be to a) have a specific plan for independence, not just the vague idea, so that people know exactly what they're voting for and what the pros/cons are, not just whatever fantasies politicians promise (grrr, brexit). b) Require that turn out must be at least 70% to be valid c) a winning vote is like 60%, not 50%.

I don't know where either of those places are on a map, I know nothing of Catalonia and what little I know about Spain is from watching the show Borgia.
