Flu shot???

Question

What are your thoughts on getting the flu shot?? I’m going on 35 weeks and I just can’t make up my mind on whether or not I should get it! On one hand, I never get the flu shot and have had no issues getting sick. On the other, I don’t want to be selfish if it could protect my baby. I was told that as long as I plan on breastfeeding, he will get all of his immunity from that. But it will also be right in the middle of flu season when he is born.. I Keep hearing mixed stories and I’m running out of time to make a decision!

I had the same thoughts and reservations about this topic. I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant and have never received the flu shot. I haven't had the flu in my ver 10 years, but I thought that if it could protect my baby that I should at least do it for that reason. 
I did a little research on it and found out that the flu vaccine has never been tested on pregnant women, but the CDC says to go ahead and get it anyway. Um, no thanks. 
Over the last 24 vaccines that were released, each one had a label on it saying that it hadn't been tested on pregnant women. To me, that's not a risk that I'm willing to take. And yes, the flu is horrible if we get it, but it's not life threatening for a normally healthy person. 
And a friend of mine had the flu shot while pregnant and her child ended up getting three strains of the flu before he was 6months old anyway. So it's not a fail proof thing. 
It's for these reasons that I decided not to get the flu shot. Every person has to make this decision for themselves, though. We all just want the best for our babies.

I got my flu shot because your immune system is weaker when pregnant and getting the flu can harm your baby. Any body who refers to the flu being bacteria seriously needs to read a book. It also contains less mercury than a tin of tuna.  It also isn't a live virus in the vaccination and even if it was it would be weakened. 
It is well studied by the college of obstetricians and gynaecologists.

I didn’t get the flu shot because I never get the flu shot. It’s just not a vaccine that I see necessary. I did get the Tdap.

I’m required to get my flu shot for work, but would anyways. I made my husband get his as well this year. Perhaps because I work in a pediatric hospital and I’ve seen the devastating effects of the flu and pertussis, I don’t even question getting the vaccine. I’ve never had an issue receiving it. I’d rather give my baby as much protection as possible, even with the awesome immunities from nursing.

If you decide not to get the flu shot, you better make sure everyone else around you has the flu shot or you are sure to stay away from anyone that does.
I decided to get to flu shot because the risk of the tiny amount of mercury or whatever else everyone else is scared of is worth the benefit of not getting the flu, especially during pregnancy and having my baby born when cold and flu season is in peak. If my Ob recommends it and my sister (pharmacist) recommends it, I am for it.
It's been a week since I got the shot and all I've suffered so far is a sore arm, but I also got my TDap at the same time. 
I get the flu shot every year. My husband never gets the flu shot and almost every year gets some sort of sick. This year he actually got the flu shot for the sake of me and our baby.

I refuse to get the flu shot because it contains mercury which weakens your immune system. So you're more likely to get sick after receiving it.

I had the same thought process as you. I’m 32 weeks and at my appointment this past week I talked to my nurse and doctor about it. I haven’t gotten the flu shot since I was a kid. I’ve gotten my sicknesses here and there, but never the actual flu! 
I ended up getting the flu shot because they will give you one safe for pregnancy. Also, they do not give you the live vaccine. So, it would only be a coincidence if you got sick after getting the shot.  It’s more important for the baby. And that’s what I thought about and why I did it. If I for some reason got the flu and didn’t get the shot, I’d kick myself in the butt for not just getting it..

I declined the flu shot but received the tdap since it’s incredibly dangerous for a baby to get the whooping cough.

I’m having the exact same dilemma. I will be 35 weeks on Tuesday and thus far have declined the flu shot and TDap because I have heard too many negative things about getting it while pregnant. There are risks like miscarriage/stillbirth from the shots that scare me because there isn’t anything you can do when the baby is inside your belly. If the baby would get sick after she is born (which is still a low possibility) at least there is something you can do to try to treat it. Giving pregnant women these shots is untested because pregnant women do not enter medical trials. I am having my whole family get vaccinated and I will get vaccinated after delivery but it just scares me to inject myself with these substances while pregnant. I have dutifully stayed away from caffeine, sushi, swordfish, artificial sugar, soda etc, changed all my personal care products to natural/organic products and eat strictly organic all to keep my baby safe. Seems counterintuitive to then inject myself with these shots. Confused.
