Does race matter to you?

Just wondering if it really matters as much as everyone makes it out to be.

I said no because we all have the same organs and skeletal structure and muscle, does it matter the shade of our skin, we have  one thing in common that's everybody on the planet, we are all human!

This poll needs context in order to not be classified as shit-stirring. Race matters in the way that it colors (pun not intended) a person's experiences with the world because of how the world at large perceives them. Individually,  race does or doesn't matter based on the person,  their surroundings, their experiences, and how they were raised. Some people make a choice to actively 'not see race' (not automatically a good idea). Some people see race, but actively decide against preprogrammed and preexisting biases. Some people see race and act within their preprogrammed and preexisting biases, both consciously and unconsciously. 
So, I won't vote until there is appropriate context.

Why wouldn't race matter to people?! It's what makes us diverse. Why try and hide the diversity of the human race, when it has such a huge range and is amazing?
Colourblindness does nothing to serve the combat of racism. It does the opposite. By not seeing race you don't acknowledge the severity of racism that is still going on today. It's like saying, I'm not a cause of racism, therefore it's not that bad an issue.

Do the world a favour and recognise that people come in all shades and colours. Because everyone's skin in beautiful, and by saying it doesn't matter we're all the same hides that beauty from people who are taught that their skin colour isn't as beautiful as white.

Racism is still a prevalent issue, and colourblindness only serves the continuation of this discrimination.

Race doesn't matter to me in any aspect.  I treat everyone the same, I have been attracted to guys of all races, I want to adopt a baby one day and I don't care what race that baby is... A persons attitude is how I decide whether or not I like them, not the color of their skin.

Race may not shade the way you interact with individuals, however systemic racism and oppression is present at all levels in the United States.

If you don't think it is, I challenge you to watch television for 30 minutes. Keep a tally of every person of color you see and how they are represented (in a positive or negative light) do the same for whites. You'll see a disproportionate negative representation of people of color.

I also challenge you to take harvards online implicit bias test. You can google it, but you need to be on a computer. If you think race doesn't matter to you, you should have no problem taking the test.

Race matters to me just as ethnicity matters to me. It shapes our heritage and many of our cultures. Race matters to me in a positive way.

It doesn't matter to me, and I am raising my son the same way. Color doesn't matter... the true character of a person and how they treat others is the most important.
