Got my Mirena yesterday!
Honestly I was so nervous in the morning I couldn’t keep any food down. The night before I had stayed up reading way too many accounts of those who had experienced horrendous pain during the insertion (in hindsight, terrible idea 😬).
I’m 22 and have endometriosis. My older sister has it too and recommended getting the coil in hopes that it would stop or lessen my periods like it did for her. When she had her first coil fitted years ago I remember her telling me how awfully painful it was so I was pretty terrified. Her second one was absolutely fine though so I saw the same GP.
I got on the table, feeling sick with fear and worry, but within 3 or 4 minutes it was over. It was uncomfortable for sure and at first she was finding it difficult and said we might have to try another time. My heart sank! But then POP the measuring tool went in, so she tried the coil itself and POP that went in too! I wouldn’t even call it painful, just like a lot of pressure that jolted my body. Like ‘whoaaaa that’s not meant to be there’ rather than pain. No where near close to my endometriosis pain so if this works, totally worth it! I had some bad cramping for about 12 hours and I’m lightly bleeding (quite brown blood🤔) but it’s really calmed down today. I think it just goes to show that everyone is different; be aware that it might be painful but don’t do what I did and get really anxious and sick over it. And I think your doctor makes a huge difference as well because my sister had a MUCH better experience with a different GP the second time round. I realise that I’m only on my second day and a lot of things can still go wrong like expelling or bad side effects but I’m feeling positive so far!
Okay so that’s the long essay over, here’s my question. When I tried to feel my strings this morning I can only really feel one, and it’s quite long. I heard that where you are in your cycle can affect this; I came off my period about 5 days ago now, I should start ovulating soon. Is this normal? I don’t get my coil check up for another 6 weeks and I wanted someone else’s opinion! Thanks guysss.
