Are you circumcising?

Question

I am going back and forth with this circumcising thing. Everyone keeps telling me to do it, but I just can't wrap my mind around hurting my newborn.

What do you think?

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends against routine infant circumcision. The benefits do not outweigh the risks, or that it is an elective procedure.

The baby isn't in any pain during the procedure. I've assisted with the procedure many times. I would rather do it when they are newborns than wait and risk multiple uti's and cause further pain for my son

There are pros and cons either way, so do your research and go with whichever you're more comfortable with. I let my hubby decide, since I don't have a penis 😉 I figure it's better to do it when he's a baby if he's gonna get it done at all, so if you don't do it then you better be sure you teach him how to clean it properly or he might need to get it done later. Just don't let other people pressure you into choosing something you don't feel comfortable with, your son is the one who has to live with your decision, not them.

I circumcised my son. You are not hurting him and they do not remind the experience. My son didn't even cry during his circumcision. There's a lot of literature these days about reasons not to circumcise but it's all a personal choice. I say sit and talk with your SO and if you've already found your pediatrician, talk with them bc that's all the opinion you need. There are too many controversial articles and "facts" that are driving us to make choices out of emotion that can effect our children long term. Gluten-free diets, vaccinations, circumcisions, wtc. Consult a medical professional and your SO only bc it's your child and a personal choice!

Such a higher chance of infection,hard to keep clean when they are elderly and mulriple reasons as to why we will! My husband is a nurse and he said hell no to not circumcision! I agree not only that but unfortunately even if its natural it will help them out so much in life by doing it.
I can't even tell you how gross and dirty they get as they get old.I had so many elderly clients not snipped and I felt so bad for them :(

Do your research and make a list of the pros and cons. Discuss the list with your SO and decide together what's best for your son. If you are still on the fence, I would say don't do it, once it's done it can't be undone.

I'm choosing to circumcise my son when he is born because after working in the day care for years I have seen so many 2-5 year olds needing to have the procedure done for VARIOUS reasons. It is so traumatic for them when they are older, especially if they have just been potty trained. It regresses their progress so much and they stay in pain longer than a newborn. Plus, you're already changing them so it's easier to keep up with than chasing a crying four year old to check on it or apply ointments.

 In England we would only circumcise if a medical condition required it.
