Blue Buffalo Dog food.

Kylie

So we adopted our chihuahua Doberman mix when he was 3 months old.. We took him to his first vet check up in our town .. we were told by them that the best food to switch him to would be blue buffalo.. so this being our first puppy we listened to the vet and switched him to blue buffalo.. our sweet boy is now 11 months old and having health issues causing us to keep having to postpone his neuter date...he started getting diarrhea off and on and he would get the shakes randomly 3 months ago and also a bad uti and we felt he was losing weight.. we kept bringing him in to the same vet and over and over again they told us he’s fine he looks healthy and his diarrhea is normal.. well yesterday was one of the worst days and I noticed he wasn’t responding to me at all and only wanted to sleep except his eyes weren’t closing .. then the shakes started and so usually that meant the diarrhea was coming so I took him outside and sure enough he had diarrhea again but this time he started to bleed while trying to poop. I decided I had had enough of seeing him suffer and something seemed wrong so I took him to a actual animal hospital and before I even put him on the scale they told me his weight is concerning.. in my head I was screaming “ Thank you Jesus .. I’m not being crazy” .. ( his ribs, butt bones, spine, and shoulder blades were showing and again to clarify this is our first pup and our vet was telling us he was fine.) so sure enough I get him on the scale and he’s 8 pounds and should be 10lbs( it’s not much but he’s a very small dog so even losing two pounds is noticeable) then the vet asks me what kind of dog food he is on.. I told them blue buffalo.. immediately she told us to throw it away .. she said most of her patients who have been on blue buffalo for a long period of time have health issues and constant uti’s.. 😱.. so long story short blue buffalo was slowly killing our only fur baby .. thankfully we caught this in time and he is now on special food and medicine to help him gain weight and to stop the diarrhea for a month and then we will recheck his weight and for now him being neutered is being put on hold because it is not safe right now.. Yesterday I learned to trust my fur mama instincts and to always get a second opinion if something doesn’t seem right. I will never bring my dog back to that same vet ever again.. and I will always bring him to the animal hospital for any of his needs even if they are pricey.. just wanted to share our experience with blue buffalo.. I AM BY NO MEANS SAYING THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN TO ALL ANIMALS ON BLUE BUFFALO.. this is just what happened to our puppy. I am so glad we caught this in time and are on the road to help our pup regain a healthy weight!

This is our Fur Baby after being fed with his new food and after his medicine 😍
