My birth story

Ciara • Mommy to Shellie Grace and Ready to meet Tracyn Wayne💜

My little November 6th baby came on Halloween! I went in at 8 for my induction and was dilated to a 1. I was having constant contractions before they even started the cytotec. I never felt a thing until my water broke. I woke up at 4 am and my water had broke and I was starting to feel contractions. I was still only at a 1 so they gave me a dose of pain meds. Within the hour, I was in excruciating pain. I was having back labor and constant contractions. But I was having some odd patterns. They were back to back to back then would stop. At this point, I was bawling because I couldn’t get a break from the pain and the contractions. By 6, I was only at a 2 and was hurting so bad that my doctor said to go ahead and give me the epidural. By this time I was 75% effaced, but only at a 2 and baby was at -2.5 section. At 7, I had moved to a 3. Around 10, I was 100% effaced, but still at a 3. I was still having a very weird contraction pattern so they had upped my Pitocin to try to fix it. At noon, they had to take me off of Pitocin because it was causing fetal distress and I was hooked up to oxygen for a little while. I was still at a 3. My doctor came in and told me that my water had broken way too early and so it left us with a short window. So if I didn’t dilate further by 5, I’d have to have a c-section. We tried everything but nothing was working. By 4, I was still at a 3 and baby hadn’t moved down despite constantly being active the whole time. At this point, they came in and said they have to take baby out. My heart rate was dropping and so was hers. I am so thankful that I had a seasoned nurse who definitely knew what she was doing. Because if she would’ve waited until 5 to contact my doctor, I don’t know if me or my baby would be here. I knew something was up when another nurse came in and said that my doctor said to call her immediately at 4. They took me in for the c-section. Baby’s heart rate was 59 and mine had dropped to the low 30’s. Finally at 5:02, miss Shellie Grace made her appearance at 6 lbs and 3 oz. She is 19 in long. I only got to see her for about 2 seconds before I was passed out and in post op. I found out that, she was stuck face up. My pelvis wasn’t wide enough for her to push through even though she was definitely trying. If we wouldn’t have had a c-section, we could’ve lost her and possibly me. Due to complications, I didn’t get to spend much time with her the first night. I am so beyond thankful that I had a good doctor and nurse. She’s here now, and besides a couple of problems with blood sugar she is perfect. And tiny. She’s having to wear premie clothes and diapers. And has her daddy wrapped around her little finger. He’s doing such a good job with taking care of me and her. I am so very blessed with an amazing hubby and my precious little princess. 💜
