What kind of bed should a 4 year old sleep in?

My boyfriend’s ex’s family lets his four year old STILL sleep in a crib. I think it’s embarrassing. And they treat him like a baby. He’s 4 years old and he certainly acts like a baby. My boyfriend agrees and hates that he can’t do anything about it.

Who cares? Does the kid sleep? Is he happy? That's all that matters. It's not embarrassing. Don't create problems where there aren't any.

A crib mattress and a toddler bed mattress are the same size... so I mean he has the same amount of bed either way. Maybe ask if they have a converter kit and if you guys could help convert it? Or get him one for Christmas or a birthday

I agree that the mattress is the same as a toddler bed mattress...but a 4 year old should definitely be in a toddler bed or even a twin size bed at this point. That’s a little bizarre.

Why does it matter? How is it embarrassing? Toddler beds are a pretty new thing, kids used to stay in a crib until they were big enough for a full sized single bed, then somebody invented those guard rails to stop them falling out if they got put in there younger.
As long as the kid isn’t too big for it and getting cramped then just be grateful he has a comfy bed to sleep in, there are many kids out there who don’t have that luxury. If he is too big your boyfriend could always buy his kid a new bed, to get the mother on board go for one of the really fun designs like a car so the kid will really want to sleep in it.

I've never heard of a toddler bed, but if others on here are correct that it's the same size as a crib, then why would you ever buy an unnecessary piece of furniture like a toddler bed? Many families don't have the money to buy a whole new bed when it's going to be outgrown just as fast. It's only embarrassing to you because you're insecure about what kind of bed a four year old sleeps in... that's the only weird thing about this.
