Mother was deemed unfit. Granted no visitation or custody. 
Dad raised us by himself until he died when I was 11. 
Mother took over until I was 16 I left home, got emancipated, and NEVER looked back.

both parents, married. my mom raised my older brother and I pretty much alone for 5 years or so while my father was working lights for shows like prince and the guess who. way before Skype, I remember she would take home videos on the gigantic VHS camcorder to send him. he came back around and got a "real" job. then my father sexually abused me as a teen and I disowned him and ceased as much contact as i could without "going public" at 17 when I went to college. started counseling around 20 and was advised to at least tell my mother. which I did. And they're still married over 10 years after the abuse happened. sooo who raises you has nothing to do with how functional or dysfunctional a family may  be 😕   I did help raise my younger brother, he was born when I was 7 and they called me mini mom. taught him his ABCs and how to tie his shoes. he's the only one who I'm actually close with. I still have a relationship wth my mother but it's seriously strained with her still married to my abuser which I will NEVER understand. if anyone ever harmed my daughter I'd have a hard enough time not landing myself in jail.
