Help! I'm confused

Soo I've been ttc and I've already took 2 test that were negative. AF was suppose to come yesterday (Saturday) but I took a test the day before which was Friday and it was negative . I have a short cycle and it usually always on time. My question is how many days can range for your cycle to be late ? I would have thought I would get a positive test .
