What does it mean to have a short cervix?

Hi ladies,
I am 18weeks and 5 days pregnant and My last cervical length said 2.9  Can a cervix get longer??? And what is considered short??? 
And what can I do to not make it shorter ??? Please anyone have something similar like me?? And what can happen?? 😞

Are you working with an MFM?  I️ think in most cases they don’t worry until your cervix is leas than 2.5 but it can change very quickly.  Are they going to monitor you more closely?  And if it shortens more are they willing to do an emergency cerclage?  Things to ask and think about.  If you’re able to, take it really easy, don’t lift heavy items, and try to lay down and rest as much as possible.

I have a history of incompetent cervix, which is linked to having a shortened cervix that will dilate pre-term (I miscarried at 14/5 because of this). I also have a vaginal prolapse, causing an even greater weakening of my pelvic floor. I have a specialist who will check my cervical length every 2 weeks, she worries if my length is less than 2.5. Although she hasnt "prescribed" bed rest, I really try to limit my physical activity, no jumping/running/anything that puts extra pressure on my pelvic floor. Try not to lift anything too heavy. I also have incorporated pelvic floor exercises a few days a week to help strengthen the area. There's no remedy to help lengthen your cervix besides letting your pelvic area rest(from what I heard). Just try to take it easy, kick your feet up as much as possible, and stay positive about this pregnancy.
