BIRTH CONTROL DOES NOT EQUAL SAFE SEX

Al

Am I the only one completely alarmed at the people giving advice on this app?!

People asking about condom suggestions and getting people telling them “have you considered an IUD or the pill?”

We are all aware that condoms don’t just prevent pregnancy but are also STI/STD barriers, right?!

I’m not saying that there isn’t a time and place for discussing other birth control options- but typically they aren’t on the posts of 16 year olds who are having casual sex with their “boyfriend of the week”!

We, as a society, need to eliminate the stigma that condoms are a hassle and that they only serve a purpose to prevent pregnancy and there are better options out there.

Being in control of your decision to prevent conception includes the conscious prevention of the conception of STIs and other diseases!!

Use a condom when you are in a relationship in which you are not 100% positive of the STD status of your partner! Period!

UPDATE: I am not talking about the posts where women ask for suggestions on the different methods and personal experiences with various birth controls. I’m referencing the posts where someone asks how to use a condom or what condoms people prefer and they are met with a chorus of “UGH I HATE CONDOMS GET AN IUD. #lifesaver!!!” Not only does that not answer their question but an IUD, in and of itself, is not a substitute for a condom.
