Tips on joint bank accounts?

Husband and I have been married three years and never had joint checking accounts but now we think it's time to combine. What are rules you and your SO have about managing a joint account?

Anything over XX amount is discussed before it’s spent. 
Bills ALWAYS get paid before anything else.

We each get a certain amount of money each month to spend on whatever we want. That way we can each have our own personal play money to spend without one spouse spending more on themselves than the other.

Same as A. Bills are paid first and items that aren’t every day essentials typically get discussed first. I find him a heads up when I buy things like formula too because I typically buy in bulk. But for the most part, there really aren’t any rules. Just common sense and we have the same beliefs in terms of money too.

We have a certain amount we take out and have as cash for our own spending money so we both make sure we have some. Other than that though we check in with each other before spending big amounts and bills always get paid before anything else

Bills get paid then we discuss. We make a budget but don't always stick to it. Set an amount that once exceeded you must discuss. We talk about it on a regular basis.

My husband and I have a joint account, and then we each have our own personal accounts. I buy stuff for me with my card and my account, and he buys his stuff with his card and his account. The joint account is solely for stuff for out household. I use the joint for groceries, ordering vitamins and supplements, buying gifts from us to other people, etc. Also, if I'm ever low on cash and need something, he can easily transfer money over to the joint account for me. And if I am reimbursing him, I'll just transfer money from my account over to the joint. If I pick up dinner I'll use the joint card. We just never buy anything out of the ordinary with the joint account without telling the other.

If my husband or me needs to take out or spend more then $400 then we ask first and let each other know.

Mindset is important- technically my SO makes more than me but we never argue about that, we firmly believe we are a team and share equally. Any big purchases we discuss together otherwise bills get paid first and we don't nitpick about little things we buy separately. I tend to be more aware of the money situation because I do most of the shopping and bill paying. As long as my SO can buy snacks and beer he's happy lol.

We had a joint account at one point, but it was only for bills. He never contributed to it, so when we changed banks (it was local and we moved out of state) we decided to just stay seperate.
