Suicide Awareness

Tr

So there is an event being held near me soon that I was really excited about.

Basically, it’s open to everyone, but there are certain things in the event specifically for suicide survivors and/or those suffering depression or PTSD. They specified even further that their target groups were troops, first responders, and LGBT+ People, since those groups have some of the highest rates of dealing with depression/PTSD/suicide.

Welp, there’s a lot of people who seem to think that LGBT+ shouldn’t be specified in that group, because their struggles aren’t the same as troops/police officers/fire fighters/etc. and if LGBT+ want to do something, they should do it separately instead of being lumped in with the first responders.

Others think that this makes it seem like all LGBT+ people are victims, and it shines them in a bad light.

I think their inclusion was meant because most people don’t know that that group does have a bigger struggle than straight cis people do.

What do y’all think? Would it have made more sense to just focus on one or the other? Or is it fine how it is?
