would it be OK to let my 1 yr old cry it out at night?

I've been trying to wean him from my breast milk past month (does great during the day but won't take his bottle at night so he gets my breastmilk atleast twice every night.. and he will sit up and cry until I give it to him. hes not hungry, he just wants comfort....he has a beep as well that he gets whenever. possibly only give to him while napping or sleeping so he can comfort himself that way?

I wouldn’t especially at this age. For the past year you’ve gone in to comfort him why would you just stop out of no where? That would definitely stress him out. Have you tried just comforting him other ways? Snuggling and rocking? Even if he cries at least you’re with him. Sometimes my daughter cries to sleep while I hold her but at least I know that she knows she’s not alone.

We did some of both. We only let her cry for a certain amount of time, we would go in, soothe, givevher the binky back, and leave again. It went from an hour to get her to sleep, to a half hour, to 15 then to 5. Now, at a year old, most nights we put her in her crib with her lovey and we leave. No crying, no screaming. She will play and babble for a little while and then put herself to sleep. There is nothing wrong with cry it out if done right. I feel it's important when they are old enough to teach them to self soothe. They need to know we are there for them, but also how to calm themselves down. We can't rock them to sleep forever.

As difficult as it is I would say let them cry it out. Some mothers say will its child abuse🙄 but my sister, and both sister in laws did it and their kids turned out amazing and are great sleepers. A friend of mine who did was about to lose her mind used extinction and started sleeping through the night immediately. Good luck!

I was and still am very against the CIO method. I'm happy I stuck with my gut and found another solution. That being said every baby is different, and every bond is different. We started to wean around 11 months so we could take it immensely slow. 1) I found wearing high neck tops/sweaters/etc. helped a lot. If she couldn't find skin she was a lot less interested/persistent. 2) When she realized she couldn't find the breast, I immediately comforted her (we side-car co-sleep): hugs, my face next to hers, she would often place her hands near my neck (I'm assuming to feel the heartbeat she  couldn't get from my chest anymore). 3) I stuck with it. The  first few night will of course be difficult, but it is so important that once you decide on how you want 'sleep train'/wean that you don't confuse them by giving up. Overall, do whatever you feel is right for you and your baby and best of luck 💛

I’m not ready to night wean but I do a dreamfeed when she’s asleep... maybe you can try doing that before he wakes and then maybe he won’t wake for his normal comfort? Just an idea idk if it would work... or try reducing the time you nurse maybe? Every few days drop down a minute? Just some ideas 💡
