Need some advice??

So my son is 5 days old and me and my boyfriend have been concerned about his nursing.. The doctor told us that he should eat 20 minutes on each breast every 3 hours.. but my son can only do 15 minutes on one side, sometimes 20. and after every feeding he literally poops right after hes done and his poops are runny and lime green now? My boyfriend thinks its because Im not feeding him his full 20 minutes on each breast?

You should really get advice from your doctor or health care provider about this sort of stuff rather than this community, they’ll be able to check your baby out and make sure everything is okay.

What do you mean when you say he can only do 15 min? Does he fall asleep? Wake him up! Does he empty the boob and there's no more milk? Then he's doing a fine job! Some babies are just more efficient at extracting milk and do it faster. 20 min is a general guideline. My LO took 10 min on one side and emptied the boob (I'm not very big and had forceful letdown). It's perfectly normal. You gage whether he's getting enough by the number of wet diapers he produces per day. Runny poops are normal breastfed baby poops. They can sometimes turn green. It's ok. If they are consistently green, make sure he empties the boob before switching to the next. The foremilk (when you start nursing) has less fat and more sugar. The hind milk (when the bib is almost empty) has more fat and less sugar. You want to get both. You can always call your pediatrician if you are concerned!
