Is Ricky only a nickname?

My husband and I really like that name but we’re wondering if it’s more of just a nickname rather than a first name. We thought about Richard but decided why use that name if we’re ultimately just going to call our son Ricky? Opinions please thanks in advance!

I think Ricky is cute. Any name can be a "regular" name. My name is Angie, not Angela. My brother is Johnny, not John or Jonathan.

I say give him a full name and use it as a nickname. That gives him an option if he wants to be called something else as he gets older.

I personally like the name Rick a lot better than Richard. If it were me, I would name him Rick and call him Ricky. He could be Rick for business, Ricky for family ❤️

I know a boy named Ricky! I don't understand why people give their children names they won't use, like when they only use a nickname, might as well be named that then!

Even if it's more commonly a nickname, you can name your child that. My SO's name is Jay and people always ask what his "full"name is... same happens to my friend named Maggie. Your child might have to deal with that question a few times in their life but it's not a big deal.
