1st birthday party?

Wondering if having a 1st birthday party for my son and inviting all our friends would be overkill or strange. We don't have any friends with kids his age. We would sort of be using it as an excuse to have a summer get together/grill party? Any thoughts?

My sons first and second birthday party didn't have a single child there. I say go for it. A year of life is an amazing thing to celebrate!

just a little confused at what I'm answering...i said no but I mean, it's not weird to invite your friends. at 1, the party's mostly for you to make a memory. If you're worried about imposing gifts, you can always tell everyone that gifts aren't required.

Not strange at all. We had a pretty big party for my daughters first birthday. We invited all our family and friends and it was such a great time. Your baby won’t remember but you will and it’ll make for a nice memory. I️ know our daughters 1st birthday will be something we all remember/ cherish!

Go for it, especially if it's a fun, casual event. When people go all out to have fancy first birthday parties it's a bit odd to me, but what you're describing sounds fun and reasonable :)

We went to our friends son’s 1st bday party in August, it was great. Honestly it was a lot of their family of course but we are all close and live the little guy and we’re happy to get together to hang out with each other and play with him. I think the only other kids there were his three cousins. It was a great time though!
