It definitely negatively affected my self image. I also went through a time where I thought drugs and underage drinking were the coolest thing ever and being a bad person was cool too.

I am no longer a teen so I'm not sure how well this will be able to help.
All I have to say on this, and if you need more info I'll be happy to help. But if it weren't for the media shoving down my throat the belief that if I don't have flawless skin, perfect hair, gigantic boobs and a butt to match, and some unbelievable curves then I'm worthless and a piece of garbage I would not have been diagnosed with anorexia at the age of 12, bulimia at the age if 13, and anemia again at the age of 13.

I would never have known that people cut themselves to release stress had it not been for social media; I found it calming and relaxing and now I have to deal with 300+ scars on my wedding day.

Depending on the level of research you need you may want to ask this question in relation to different generations. I think there would be some interesting generational differences.

Unrealistic expectations and standards. It’s very difficult not to compare yourself to other girls in the media especially when your body is changing.

Yes! For me it was body image & skin. I thought I was supposed to have clear beautiful skin, so when I started seeing little blackheads, I would pick at them which led to acne, which ruined my skin. I also was never happy with my body bc of the media. Now, being almost 22, I have learned to love myself for me. It never caused any eating disorders from me like many other girls, just very low self esteem. My skin however, I still fight myself everyday to love that.. I have scars & huge pores.. that's a work in progress but if the media would not put out the same image of woman.. airbrushed skin, perfect bodies, girls wouldn't grow to hate  themselves for not being like them.

The media has made me look down on myself in so many ways and made it hard for me to accept the person I am. Which sucks bc I'm a pretty awesome person. 😂😂😂
