When a military member openly criticizes their government do they become more or less patriotic?
Someone I️ work with has their identity based around being a patriot. I️ asked him what that means and he stated he comes from generations of military members.
This person points to aspects of criticism within the government but takes major issue with others who question or criticize aspects he considers patriotic.
It got me thinking about what does and doesn’t qualify as a patriot. Below are additional questions:
Does connections to a military automatically gain that association of patriotism?
Are there other types of patriots?
Can anyone say they are a patriot?
Do characteristics of fascism qualify patriotism also?
Can people rejected from military service be patriotic?
