Whose last name to put on the birth certificate if not married?

Me and my boyfriend are engaged but I am becoming unsure of our future. Not having a crystal ball, I wonder what is best for me and the baby in the future? She is due in 4 weeks and I don't know who to ask. Anyone have regrets the way they chose or would do things differently now looking back?

Yours until you are married then you can change it. Thats what I'm doing. Im also unsure of the future with babies father

If you are unsure of your future with the Dad then give baby your last name and you can always change it

I think u should always give the baby the fathers last name bc he is part of the child and it’s a respect thing....the only time I wouldn’t agree is if the dad is giving rights up or something.

Me and my bf are not married but have been together for 13 years. I made the decision to give our girls his last name. Regardless of our being married, he is still their father and I feel that it’s a right that he deserves.

not married during my first pregnancy and named my son with his dad's name. I don't regret it. it would be a pain in the butt to change in the future if I didn't do it. plus his dad is still in his life.

I have my daughter my husband’s (boyfriend at the time of my daughter’s birth) last name. I think if he seems like he’ll be in the child’s life, then you should do his name or hyphenate yours and his.

Did you create the baby alone? It needs the fathers name unless the father isn’t in the child’s life at all.

We hyphenated and I regret it so much. It's such a mouthful to get out. Every time we need to state his surname I have to make special mention that it's hyphenated. It's too much hard work really. 
If I could go back I would just give him my partner's surname. It was complicated and I wanted some physical attachment via name to my child so to 'be fair' did a hyphen. If I could go back, I wouldn't.
