So many IVF questions-can anyone help?

I had a “consult” with the doctor today and it wasn’t really helpful. She basically told me the process and that they only do ICSI if there a sperm issue. We don’t have sperm issues but we are explained infertility so what if the sperm and egg just aren’t meeting. Should i demand ICSI? Do I have a right to do that? I mean we are paying $10,000 out of pocket for this and i don’t want to waste a cycle. We can only afford to do it once.

My re also doesn’t do icsi unless there are sperm issues. He said with icsi you chance eggs being fertilized that really shouldn’t be, and the outcome is negative in the long run.
Just some food for thought.

Listen to your doctors. You don’t need ICSI if their isn’t sperm issues. Sperm wants to fertilize the egg. I promise. Also they don’t just put the two together and not check on it. They would know if that was an issue and they would do what is necessary to fix the issue. ICSI is more expensive and unnecessary if the sperm is normal.
