How does your baby sleep?

I’m at an impasse...
My son is 3 weeks old tomorrow and has turned into a stomach sleeper.  It scares me to let him sleep long periods of time on his tummy due to the risk of SIDS, so you can imagine how I sleep at night 😩 how does your baby sleep? Is it okay for him to sleep on his belly this young if at all? It’s really the only way he’ll sleep. We live with my in-laws and the 3 of us share a room so he’s sleeping in a pack n play and anytime I go to put him down on his back, he squirms and wakes right back up.

Both of my sons were tummy sleepers from day 1. They had severe acid reflux so that was the only thing that helped them. My first son I just lost sleep knowing I would nap later. Second child I wasn't able to nap so I finally broke down and bought an owlet around 6 weeks of age. Knowing I could see what his actual oxygen levels were put my mind as ease. Was totally worth the purchase. Currently expecting baby #3 and if he is anything like his brothers then he will be a tummy sleeper as well. Plan to upgrade my owlet for him.

Any chance you could learn to safe co-sleep? I was always scared that my baby would kick a blanket over his head, roll, choke, or any other frightening thing while he slept, I literally could not relax. So eventually I started just laying him on my chest (tucked into my tanktop kangaroo-style for extra security and bonus skin-to-skin time) and propped myself up a bit with pillows, and put pillows under my arms/along my sides so I wouldn't roll or move. Baby is nearly 3 months old now, and this has been the best thing for both of us. He still doesn't sleep more than 3 hours max, so I'm not too concerned. Once his night sleeping extends to 4-5 hours + ill likely transition to his crib. But this way, if he spits up, cries or wiggles, I've got him right there.  Plus I know that he won't kick a blanket over his head, or get too cold. It's a win-win for both of us, and it sounds like it could be for you too. Perhaps just try a short nap maybe supervised by your husband or something to see if this could work for you? Also, I always sleep with a dim light on, that way I can tend to any of baby's needs, and see that all is well at any given time

Maybe try his side. Ours would roll onto his side and the ped said if he got himself in that position he was ok

Honestly, all 4 of my babies slept on their stomachs, no problem. The only time we've ever had issues were when I put them on their backs, they threw up and choked. Another alternative would be to use a rolled blanket under the mattress to form and incline and another rolled blanket against baby's back while he's on his side. That way is he throws up, it'll run out instead of choking him. As far as SIDS is concerned, no-one knows for certain what causes it and it'll always be a fear every mother has. All we can do is keep our and ears on our little ones. I bought a heart and respiration monitor for my last baby, I was so nervous having him sleep in his bed, that offered some peace of mind. I still woke up every 10 mins to check on him but all was well. 😊

I let my son sleep on his tummy if I'm awake and watching him and if he's on my lap. Otherwise he falls asleep on his back. He doesn't care how he sleeps unless he's gassy. If he's gassy, he wants to be on his tummy, on my lap, or sitting up.
