Reveal party..

I'm just curious why people are suddenly having these reveal parties. Yes, I get that some want to share whether they are having a boy or girl, but ultimately whTs the point? Do you get gifts for the baby? Is it just another reason to celebrate? Do you still have a baby shower after. Personally I think it just seems like another expense. I'd rather be saving that money to buy things I'll need for the baby. I think that the gender would usually be revealed when the baby shower invitations are sent.. I just don't get it!
