Is it okay to ask for a female doctor?

I'm goingto my first appointment next Thursday and I'm kind of uncomfortable with having a male doctor if I get a pelvic exam or something that involves a bit of examining down there. I don't have insurance and im going to be applying for Medicaid right after (im young and my parents haven't gotten me insurance as we can't afford it). Do I have a right to ask for a female doctor? Or is it not really my place. I would just feel a lot more comfortable with a female doctor, I have nothing against male doctors.

When I called to schedule my first appointment I made sure to tell them I wanted a female doctor and sure enough that's what I got.just ask I find it more comfortable with a female doc

Well you should make sure you're actually seeing a female doctor first. I'm not sure how it is where you live but I choose what doctor to go to so I know if it's a male or female. I have a male OBGYN but there is always a female assistant in the room when doing those examinations.

If however you're concerned about a male Dr judging while he's down there, I can assure you he's seen many before yours and will see many after. Any Dr's concern with be with your health and that's it.

You can ask for a female Dr or you can also ask a male doctor to have a female present during any pelvic exams. My male Dr actually calls his secretary in to stand near the head of the examination table when he is examining me without being asked.
