Hyphenated last name?

We’re thinking of giving our child a hyphenated last name, but are worried it will be too long!!
What do you think? Is Maril-Grayson too long of a last name? We’ll probably forgo a middle name...

I'd advise against. it sounds great, don't get me wrong. if it was just that if day go for it. but whenever he has to fill out any paperwork or official exam forms, he won't be able to fill in the whole name. An ex of mine had his mother's maiden name as his middle name. it looked just like how you intend, but official forms were much easier. and what about when he gets married? It can just get really complicated. I suggest using one of the names as a middle name instead.

NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO lol  It's a pain in the ass. My husband has it like that and he tried changing it when we got married, so they took it off but then we found out it was just for the marriage license. Legally he had to go to court and give his reasons why and all this stuff and pay like $300. So some things have his last names hyphenated, some are not, some he just has one last name and he always has to prove it's him because his ID says one thing, his SS card says another and his documents another. As you can tell, it's a mess lol

curious why. is it because it's your last name and the dads? do you not plan to take the dads last name if you ever get married?

The kids that I know that have a hyphenated last name often drop one of the names. Is it that important to you? Do you and your partner not have the same last name?
I considered a hyphenated last name when I got married until I realized it was just ego talking and ultimately wasn't important. I don't regret not doing it.
