I don’t think it’s either? Unless your parents have done something unspeakable to you, why wouldn’t you want your children to meet them or see them? Also, grandparents are great (sometimes free!) babysitters. It’s not a privilege nor are you entitled to use them as babysitters / just as them seeing their grandkids isn’t a privilege or a right.

I say it's a privilege, even though I cringe a bit saying it bc my sons grandparents are so awesome. It's literally legally not a right for grandparents to see their grandchildren. They don't get to say where, when, or how often they see them. There are some situations where grandparents can be very shitty and don't deserve to see their grandchildren. I personally grew up with amazing grandparents and were very close with them and I want the same for my children. Every family is different.

Privilege. I had a situation in my family that occurred before I was born, where my grandmother took 2 of her children to court to fight to see her grandchildren and she was denied.

I think as long as the child’s grandparents love them and are safe people, they should be able to see them! I never understand why people have a problem with MORE people loving their children. I completely understand that some situations and relationships aren’t positive, but a lot of the time I see that between the parents and grandparents, NOT the grandparents and children. Children need lots of support and resources, and family is a huge part of that! Ultimately, it’s the parents choice, of course. But I hope they are making that choice for the right reasons.

It neither really. Grandparents are extended family... If they are around great if not oh well. They have no rights. 
Just as Aunts/Uncles, Cousins.... All extended family. 
Unless they actually raised the child without the parents help for an extended amount of time etc.. then in some states they can claim rights.
