Should teen moms be “allowed” to enjoy their pregnancy?
There’s a certain stigma around teen moms and all of the statistics that accompany them. Do you feel that teen moms should be “allowed” to openly enjoy their pregnancy?
I️ had my son as a teenager & have been a single mom ever since. He’s a happy and healthy six year old. I️ was telling a “friend” that I was really looking forward to being pregnant again bc I️ didn’t feel like I️ could enjoy it the first time. I️ didn’t feel like I️ could share my excitement over things like feeling him move for the first time & every time after that. The only pictures I️ have of myself pregnant are from my baby shower & I️ kind of wish I️ had more. I️ didn’t share any of the positive emotions bc I️ felt like everyone looked at me with the mindset that I shouldn’t be pregnant in the first place, much less enjoying it. This “friend” stated that bc I’m at a more appropriate age then I’ll be free to photograph, document, post, whatever I️ want but the first time around it would have been “inappropriate.”
Bonus question: would you use the term “not fair” that teen moms can have easy, healthy pregnancies by “accident” while planned pregnancies by more “age-appropriate” individuals can experience complications & difficulties?
I’ll post my experience with the second question in the comments.
