This options are bias, what about "because I know the baby will have a painful shortened life"

All of those options are ridiculous. Maybe try "fear that they won't have a good quality of life"

Could be all of the above. Could be one or two of the above. Could be all these reasons and more, or none of these reasons. Just hope you are never faced with that decision; I had a sister with trisomy 18 who died in my father's arms after a massive seizure. She couldn't see, had a hole in her heart, couldn't eat on her own, and was in constant distress. She went into palliative care when she was 2 months old and died a month later, on massive doses of painkillers and barbituates to manage her pain and seizures. If I could prevent a child of mine suffering like my own sister did, even for a minute, I would do it.

Because they feel like it is what's best for them. Quality of life is also a factor. That being said, I completely support a person's right to choose what's best for them and their family

I'd rather not be born at all if it was determined that I'd have a debilitating disease like muscle wasting or whatever. Whatever short time I spent on this earth would be filled with pain and discomfort and everyone around me would be running and jumping while I'm confined to a wheel chair at a young age watching them have the time of their lives. That's not an existence I would wish on anyone.

As a different light shed in this topic, women such as myself, who have had to have "abortion" or as a legitimate phrase "termination for medical reasons." It was YES completely up to ME. However!!!! My child A)may or may not have made it to full term. & B) if he did make it to full term (we were abt 6 months) and to be born, moments or as long as a few days after he would have passed due to several fetal congenital defects. This was the single hardest thing I've had to do in my life, but I knew it was the best for him and my husband and I. Letting Zander come into this terrible world, only to feel pain and suffering would not have done any good opposed to turning him to our lord. We know we made the right decision for us, and will see Zander & our Little Girl one day in heaven. Before every single one of you are quick to judge, imagine being the one sitting in the dr room hearing the unbearable news of the inevitable, despite our faith you can't change an apple into an orange. My heart goes out to all mommies and daddies who endure these battles...

Some families are not equipped financially or emotionally to provide the kind of care a child with severe disabilities will need. Because they know how important this is, some choose abortion because they know they aren't able to do it.

None of these... It'd be about quality of life for the child, among other reasons.

I would abort depending on which illness and my child's quality of life. For example: there's this skin defect called Epidermolysis Bullosa. Look it up. It's genetic and life expectancy is shorter. Painful wound care everyday of their lives. I would never, ever let my child suffer with something so physically and mentally painful and exhausting. As parents we have to put our children first. Having my child live with a less than fair quality of life is abuse in my eyes. It's not about the money, sacrifice of time, the stares, etc.

Why do so many women choose abortion when told their child will be born with a physical/mental disability?
