Do you believe in long distance relationships?

I’m currently struggling with a potential relationship with a guy that I really like and may even love. The problem? He’s 6,000 miles away from me. 😔 He’s talked before about moving to my town and he sounds serious. We video chat and text all the time and we both really like each other. So...what is your opinion on LDRs?

In my personal opinion, long distance only works as a temporary thing. And I’d only do it after being in a relationship in person with the guy for a while. 
Long distance takes a lot of work, trust, and maturity. And I think you miss out on a lot of important steps that happen in in person relationships. And I don’t mean just sexual things. There’s a lot of bonding experiences that you miss out on. 
I don’t want to discourage you, if it makes you happy then you should go for it! But be aware of some of the drawbacks. 
Just one last question though, how old are you guys? How long have you been talking? It worries me slightly that he’s mentioned moving. Just cos I had a friend in high school who met a guy online who did that and like... he was no good. Just want to make sure you’ll be safe 😊

I was in an LDR and still occasionally am (if my husband gets deployed). It’s rough at times, but we have been married for three years!! ❤️ Keep yourself occupied and communicate everyday !

I was in one with my current husband. I was in Michigan, him in Florida. I moved to Florida we’ve been together 6 years, married almost 1 year 👌😍 they do work!

Personally, and this is from being mistreated and bad relationships and shit, I have to know he’s 100% down for me when im not there. And  I recently moved to a different town from my boyfriend and it drives me crazy not knowing, let alone every moment not being able to hug him or kiss him... I don’t think I could ever do long distance 😂 but if you don’t need that reassurance or physical affection then go for it!

Currently in a LDR... I’m in US and he’s in Australia. I’m in Australia with him right now though for a few more weeks. Next year I’ll spend the entire year here, then we will probably start the engagement process after that so I can move here. I’m 24 and he’s 26. We have been together “officially” almost a year, I’ve known him for 5 years. 
Yes, it’s hard. SO hard. I’m already dreading leaving and being apart for a few months. They can work, but realistically, you probably can’t be long distance forever. You’re on the right track with video and voice calling. Visit as often as you can. I think I saw a comment you said you’d only been talking for a few months and it’s early, but eventually you have to have a basic convo about the “end game.” Can one of you move eventually, either to the other or together to a new town? How many months/years away would it be? I’ve been planning on moving next year since like a month into our relationship since I kinda get a year of testing out living together when I do come back.

Currently in a long distance relationship with my boyfriend of 5 months. I know it’s not a long relationship but we love each other and we make it work. We’re 2 States away from each other currently and yes it is horrible sometimes but if you love each other you will make it work. We’re going on our 3rd month of distance and we’ve scene each other i think 5 times since we both moved to different places for school. It’s hell and you will have doubts at times but i promise you, the moments you have together after being apart are amazing.
