Severe menstrual cramps

claudia
Since I gave birth to my daughter in August 2013 I've had a regular period every 28 days. The past 6 months I've had very painful periods!  Its gotten worse every month. I have abdominal pain, my rectal area feels very inflammated and I have severe cramps like labor cramps. They're horrible they're to the point I can hardly even move. Get very constipated and cramping bad when I do try and go to the bathroom. Talked to my doctor about it and he just gives me anti flamatory medicine which don't seem to fix the problem. What could be the cause? Help please, I've tried everything to relieve my pain but no progress :(

I have similar pain. I have never been pregnant, but for the last 6 months or so I get excruciating abdominal cramps and rectal cramps, sometimes a week before my period. Constipation, too. Pretty much the same as you described. Had an HSG - tubes are clear. Had pap - no infections. Had ultrasound - gyn saw two cysts that looked like endometriomas on each ovary. My mom had ovarian cysts when she was my age and had surgery. I would ask your mom if she had anything like that because it can run in families. My RE didn't advise me to have surgery or anything. He said it *could* be endometriosis or just some other type of cyst. It used to be more common to opt for surgery, but he said now the latest medical advice is to leave it be if possible. It could also be fibroids I think. Still experiencing the pain and hoping to have some plan of action soon. Going to the doc again tomorrow just to rule out pregnancy or a bladder infection.

Are you breast feeding or have the cooper IUD by any chance both can make your cramps worse?

I do breast feed but I doubt that the pain would be because of it since it's just recent

See another doctor, you shouldn't have to deal with that pain every month. It could just be your hormones settling but surely the level of pain warrants some testing? GL!

Thank you! It just gets worse every month instead of better.

Yeah I would definitely go see another doctor. My sister use to have terrible cramps like that, and she went on birth control to help relieve the pain- and it worked. Also, I get terrible cramps like that randomly every now and then- right before they come on I take 800 milligram ibuprofen, cramps get knocked right out.

I've taken ibuprofen too and nothing helps, they're so painful I would take Vicodin sometimes and nothing helps it.
