While 28 days is the average cycle length, the longer your cycle (within reason, not like over the early thirties range) is actually a sign of reproductive health, and fertility. This is because the longer your cycle, the longer your eggs have to mature and grow. I’ve noticed that the shorter a person’s cycle is, the heavier/closer to menopause they tend to be. In the case of heavier women, this is because the excess estrogen due to the excess weight, shortens the cycle, and actually ultimately reduces the health of the eggs. If you are in peri menopause, and have been struggling to get pregnant, I would recommend trying two-four cycles of birth control before taking extreme measures like IVF, etc. because the birth control may regulate your cycle long enough so that once you are off it, the body may produce eggs normally, and in tandem with a normal cycle, rather than a hap-hazardous one. The complete miss of a period (without you being pregnant) may be caused by significant weight loss in a short amount of time, so ladies, don’t be discouraged if you think working out is negatively effecting your reproductive health. If you are, however missing periods over and over, I would recommend seeing your doctor.
