Vagina feeling weird

So whenever I’m on my period my vagina like inside ( I know it’s has a specific name I just can’t think of it) feel swollen.. it’s pretty annoying.. I usually really struggle with tampons as well. It really hurts to put them in me.. do any of you know what might be happening?
