Is ‘#metoo’ a good thing for women and society?

Question

#metoo has given women a platform and a voice for expressing rape, assault and harassment of all kinds. 
However some people are divided on how good this really is. On one side it’s showing the world the sheer number of people effected by this, and raising awareness while allowing us to speak up. 
On the other hand it may be seen to silence male voices wanting to express their experiences too. 
It might also be causing men to feel like they’re treading on egg shells. if we post ‘he ask me out several times and it felt like harassment #metoo’; men might struggle to know what is considered appropriate behaviour and what is not. 
Is this deterring men and women from supporting women’s issues or is it showing the severity of the issue and ultimately benefiting everyone?

Not just for women. 
It’s for every survivor of sexual assault/rape. It’s a good thing for people to realise they aren’t the only ones who have been through the trauma of assault/rape. And it breaks down the taboo of survivors speaking about their experience.

How could raising awareness not be a good thing? People of all genders are using the hashtag. If there are people out there that don't support it, they are seriously misunderstanding the meaning or they are just plain jerks. How could you not support raising awareness to sexual harassment and assault. Since you brought up men, I'd honestly think twice about a man whose ego was so fragile that he thought he had to walk on eggshells around women. I hate that argument. It's so simple. Don't be an asshole, don't harass, don't rape. It's not difficult. 
There are many people out there who have commented that they didn't realize this was such a part of everyday life until looking at the hashtag posts. And many people who don't feel alone bc so many others have gone through the same thing. I think it's empowering and might increase chances of reporting when incidents happen.

The reason it seems as if men are being silenced is because there is still a HUGE stigma on “men can’t get raped” belief. 
Terry Crews story is not heard as much as the 50000 other women that have been in the news lately, and quite frankly I blame the media for that.
Terry came out with his story, but because he’s a man, and his predator isn’t that famous he’s not getting as much coverage. Only short mentions of his story.
I’m sure this happens more to women, it would make sense since there are more women than men, however, I feel the media has not shed enough light on terry’s story, I feel if they did we would have more men coming out with their “me too” stories

On the whole, it's a net positive. There are some specific details surrounding the start of the movement and the fact that it acts as if people are entitled to hearing victims experiences as if they are "teachable moments," that I don't like, but it's starting a much needed conversation on everyday harassment and assault

Not sure how it would be deterring men and women from supporting this issue? The amount of people being sexually assaulted is out of control, for both sexes. Awareness is never a bad thing.

I mean...asking someone out several times is blatantly ignoring the fact someone said no to you, so yes that is harassment if you can't respect those boundaries.
I've also seen plenty of men use the hashtag, too. Men are welcome to use it as well to talk about men being victims of abuse. 
I personally think this movement is simply performance trauma but I understand the intent and respect it.
