Medicine when TTC or pregnant

So I was hanging out with a friend this week talking about what her experience was when she and her husband were TTC, since me and my husband are TTC, she said she never took medicine when trying. Nothing no Motrin, Acetaminophen or anything if she was in pain. My question is does it actually help to not take medicine? I have a psychiatrist for reason and he advised me that when trying and when I’m pregnant to keep taking my prescription medicine. What are your options on this or what all have you heard?
