Distress!! Genetic testing?

So I'm going in to get my blood withdrawn again tomorrow to see if hcg levels are doubling and the nurse said they are gonna do genetic testing on me and my husband as a routine?! Has anyone else done this or been told to have it done?

Yes, we did it before we started trying. They tested me first... My results came back with three different positives. The dr told me they were rare, but wanted to test my hubby to make sure he wasn't also a carrier of the same three. He was not...

We were offered it with my first but declined due to the fact we don't believe in abortion so even if something could and or was wrong we wouldn't do anything. That ended in MC, but it wasn't anything genetic. You have the right to decline any tests.

It's not routine in my OBs office but can be done. If you don't want it I'm sure you could refuse. But on the plus side it could inform you of risks of certain diseases (sickle cell, tay sachs, whatever) that could have a significant effect on your baby. Some things could be helpful to relieve your worries, other things could give you more worries. Usually you talk to a genetic counselor first about what the pros and cons of testing are before you do it so hopefully they won't just take your blood without counseling and your consent. There are some protections for genetics testing but life insurance is allowed to access them still (at least in US) so that makes me hesitant to do any.
