No insurance? No dr visits?

Question

I'm going on 5 weeks, and still haven't spoken with a dr/rn. I don't have insurance and this was an unplanned pregnancy. I don't know what to do. I really want to get blood work and u/s done soon but I don't have a dr or money to just go to a clinic/lab for such expenisive work. My SO is being as helpful as he can but he has insurance thru his job where as mine does not even offer insurance. I want the best start for my baby but don't know what to do about prenatal care. I already know I'm going to have an at home birth because of this, but I really want to be able to see a dr a few times! Ughhh I guess I'm just looking for ideas from you ladies. Anyone know any ways to obtain low cost prenatal care? We haven't told anyone yet and won't be until 6/21 so I can't ask for help from family, and even so I really wouldn't want too...

Apply for your states medicaid..

If you are in the states, you can always look into medicaid for pregnancy. The income requirements differ from other types of medicaid and it will cover 100% if you are eligible.

My sister she's pregnant and she didn't have health insurance and she went to the DHhr I gave her medical insurance

If you don't have a history that would require you to go to a hospital, a birth center could be a good choice. I have friends who have had wonderful experiences with that route.

My last two kids were home births. I didn't need to go to a lab and have bloodwork done. My midwife checked my hemoglobin at each visit, along with a urine strip, weight, heartbeat, etc. with both of them ultrasounds were optional since everything was normal. But we wanted to know the sex, so we waited until 20-22 weeks and got a recommendation from our midwife for a good technician.. One rec was a vanity place for $70 and the other $300 at a clinic. We chose the vanity place simply because we knew she was good and she'd insist on speaking with our midwife if anything was abnormal. All in all, including a few chiropractor visits toward the end it cost less than $3500. Anyway, I know it's a casual approach, but if I have a choice I'll never go back to the hospital :-) Birth center maybe

Go to your local job center and apply for insurance! Also Google local women's centers and they do pregnancy test for free

When I was pregnant with my first daughter, my husband and I weren't married. We had been together a couple of years. I had insurance through my job and so did he but I was able to still get on his insurance and was dual covered. Have you looked into that? 
All his insurance company requested from us was a bank statement with both of our names on it and a piece of mail with both of our names on it to prove we lived together.

I don't know which state you're in, but I'm pretty sure that if you are pregnant and without insurance that you are eligible for Medicaid. Check with your local department of human services hun.

Most states offer free medical insurance to pregnant women. Go to your local dhs office and apply
