Checking for dilation. Did it hurt?

I'm 26 weeks and i was just reading about how they check for dilation and how many women say it hurts like hell. I'm SO SCARED NOW. I'm literally crying 😓 I could use some relief right now lol.

It's so painful for me that I refused to get checked unless they felt it was absolutely necessary and when I was in labor of corse. And plan to do the same thing with this baby, fuck that shit. 😂

It can vary quite drastically from woman to woman and doctor to doctor. Some women have more swelling and tenderness in their vaginas during pregnancy than others, and some women just have super sensitive vaginas normally. I personally have a super sensitive vagina. Penetration of any kind for any reason can be painful. Cervical checks for me were excruciating, it didn’t matter who was doing them. My friend, on the other hand, only had slight discomfort during her checks.

The first time I Got checked it didn’t hurt at all. I was 1 cm dilated. It was just uncomfortable then. During that check I ended up getting a membrane sweep which definitely hurt more. A week later I got checked again by two doctors, one who was in training. The one in training checked me and thought I was only 2 cm dilated, and she didn’t hurt as bad, but then the other doctor said I was 3cm dilated but she hurt pretty damn bad during her check because I think she was more thorough. I had a membrane sweep at that appointment too and holy hell did that one hurt even worse. When she pulled her hand out it was covered in blood, and the next day I started having intense contractions for about 6 hours. I went to triage to be evaluated for early labor. Then I had another cervical check and holy hell did it hurt like a bitch, but I think that was because I was having so much going on down there anyway. They made me stay for a few more hours to see if my dilation would progress and checked my cervix one more time, and the last time was the worst of all. It hurt soooooo bad. But it was also my 4th cervix check in a 16 hour period, plus a membrane sweep, plus during a period where I had dilated from 3 to 4 cm, so with all that considering I think it definitely depends on the person doing the check, and what kind of situation you already have going on down there, because on a scale of 1-10 in pain, I’d say I’ve experienced them on both sides of the spectrum.

It depends on the nurses. Some are gentle and it doesn't hurt. Others are digging for gold and it hurts like a bitch and others have really small hands and almost have to shove their entire fist up you to get to your cervix 😭😭

Learn to do it yourself, and don’t let anyone if you don’t want them to! A cervix isn’t a crystal ball, and dilation when you’re not in active labor means nothing at all. I was dilated to at least a 3 for weeks!
