Car seat without base?

Hey mamas! Yesterday I had my baby shower and my cousin gifted me her Graco Snug Fit car seat that she used for her son. It was manufactured in 2014 and doesn't have any record of accidents. The only thing is, it didn't come with a base and she said she used the car seat without it. I know I'm able to use it without it (as seen in the picture) and I know that I could easily just buy the base, but have any of you ladies used it without the base?

I would just buy a base to make yourself feel more comfortable about strapping baby in. Lots of people have extra bases and I'm sure you can find someone near you that has one for sale. I bought a second base off of someone for my SO car so we don't have to move the base or just strap in the car seat. I've always felt it's safer to use a base but that's just me.

I heard it's safer with the base. Either way, i would get it inspected to make sure it's installed correctly.

The base is really more of a convenience thing. The car seat has had to pass the exact same safety tests with a base installation and a belt installation so it is just as safe either way.

If you plan on leaving it in the car all the time, then you can install it without the base. If you plan on taking it in and out of the car often, then it's better to get a base for it.

I have, but only when going into other vehicles. it was handy to not have to move the base over, but in our regular vehicle i used the base.

I have a base in my van, but don't have one in my prius. Just make sure the seat belt is on tightly and correctly :)

We did sometimes when we were riding with someone else and just moved her car seat. 
But I think it is way easier to have the base strapped in. I'd check Facebook garage sale pages and resale baby stores for an extra base.

We had our car seat installation checked at the fire station and they said as long as they are correctly installed it is just as safe with or without the base.
