Naming baby after living family
Background: My husband’s family is Hawaiian and they love to use family names. All three of his nieces are named after his mom. They all recycle names of living family members. I do not like it. My family does not do that and it’s weird to me, but more than anything I don’t want my kid to share a name with their cousin or aunt. I want them to have names that are THEIRS; maybe shared with a long-dead relative, but not with someone living. I love Hawaiian names. I just don’t want my daughter and her aunt and great-grandma and cousin to all have the same name.
What do y’all think? Ideas for compromise? My husband wants to name kids after his parents and mine but my parents do NOT approve of kids being named after them.
