What to expect

Question

My husband is currently in the DEP for USAF. He is still waiting to get his ship date for bootcamp. I just want to know everyone's experiences and what I can expect as a military wife and the family lifestyle. We currently do not have any children but we plan on starting a family soon. I’m 19 my husband is 20 in the marines and he got stationed in North Carolina so we both moved here. Keep in mind all our family is in Missouri. It’s hard being 17 hours away but at least we have each other. He’s gone a lot working long hours and field ops. Deployments suck! But honestly if you can make it through all of that together it makes your relationship so much stronger 😊

When I first got with my husband, I joined ALL the Camp Lejeune wives clubs (where he was stationed) just to get an idea! Of course, my husband deployed to Afghanistan for a year 5 months after our first date 😒 But the biggest advice I could give is learn to be fluid; especially if he's just starting out. There's going to be one motard, high ranking jack thats going to be stressing your man out (there always is) so make his home life as stress free as possible. Be understanding when he's not able to come home until 7pm when you had dinner prepared at 5. Shoot, my husband is looking to pick up E7 and I still make crock pot meals because I never know when he'll be coming home each day! The official word will change often (your husband is deploying, not deploying, and now training will be held right in the middle of your planned vacation). Its BEYOND irritating but its the nature of his job. This happened to me in September when I had to change our plane flight from NC to Seattle 3 times within a 24 hour period because my husband was put on the range and theor release time kept changing. But between those extremes, it'll be like any other relationship. You'll do fine!
