Does getting stretched help?

Got checked today and got told I'm 1cm and my doctor did a stretch which was extremely painful. I'm just wondering does it help you dialate more? 12 more days till I meet my baby I'm just hoping sooner

I had a stretch on Monday and it didn't hurt at all. Just kinda uncomfortable. I'm guessing they stretch you up to the next cm and it can possibly cause contractions that actually help with dilation.
