My long distance boyfriend of two years forgot my birthday two years in a row and I don't know if I've given him too many chances. Him and I are in our early to mid 20s. In two years I've given him another chance after breaking up with me overnight (on (Christmas <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glow.android.eve">Eve</a>) and cheating on me with his ex twice (in March after). I've told him I need more of an effort on his part but his ego gets in the way.

Things were great in the beginning, I had an attractive boyfriend who seemed to care about me, I was feeling good about myself, then when we started taking steps forward in the relationship, he pulled back.

He's bought me flowers once because he wanted to show off in front of his female coworkers that he treats his girlfriend right, but that was the only time he's ever done that. I've bought him Christmas presents (even after the cheating), birthday gifts, and done everything he wanted me to do including turn down a job opportunity that would've helped me get to where I want to be in my career. He tells me what I can and cannot do, wear and say but when I try to do the same he gets mad.

I've been in a relationship with my ex where he was my best friend and I messed up and didn't realize what was in front of me when it was there. My current boyfriend tells me that I'm never going to find someone who loves me like he does. I'm afraid my current boyfriend is my lesson in life that I should have appreciated my ex boyfriend when we were together.

I would love some advice on what to do.
