Skyla IUD Removal!
Update: procedure was simple easy and way less painful than the input haha bout a 5/10. Happy its out and can't wait to see my body go back to normal.
Well It's time to finally weigh in on my Skyla experience!
Insertion was almost exactly 8 months ago. It was pretty awful, and I cramped for a few days. The feeling of being bloated never really went away. My first few periods were very very long, but on time, and eventually they tapered out to a shorter/lighter period by about 6 months. So, almost exactly average.
But right around the time my period settled in, my emotions and hormones took a nose dive. I have been SO hormonal, as well as depressed the last 2 months. Finally I decided to get this removed hoping it's the cause. I've done a ton of research of personal experiences and seems like depression/anxiety are more common on the IUD than most other BC.
On top of that I steadily gained about 10-13 lbs (with fluctuation) during the first 4 months. I peaked at about 138, where I was 125 to begin with. I'll be making another post about weight loss as I recover from the hormonal nightmare. I am 99.5% sure that the hormones have been the cause. I've always been the same weight and have NEVER been over 130 my entire life. I only just turned 23 so I don't feel like I should be gaining a lot of weight because of age. My life is much happier now too and I eat well and get moderate exercise. I really have no reason other than hormones to have gained weight.
But really the main reason I am getting this removed is because I just don't feel like me anymore. I don't feel like I belong in the body I'm in. I feel insecure all the time (wasn't a problem before) and self conscious. I don't feel in control over my emotions/thoughts/reactions. I just feel OFF.
So today is my last day with Skyla. It did work perfectly in preventing pregnancy. It helped with my periods. But the cons for me are just too important. I am excited to get back my natural body. I've always had an incredibly healthy functioning womb and period and it seems to not like to mix with extra/synthetic hormones. Makes sense. Haha.
I hope this can help anyone out there considering hormonal bc or the removal of an iud. It is YOUR choice. You have control over what you do with your body.
In the mean time, my fiance and I are using condoms/pull out (rarely). We know it's not as effective but the chance of pregnancy to us is not the deciding factor. Thankfully, if we got pregnant it wouldn't be the end of the world for us. I know a lot of women cannot even think to afford a child or just do not want one, so giving up BC is not an option. I respect that decision!
Good luck ladies and I'll update this post later after the procedure!
