Need advice about OB or fertility doc

My husband and I have been trying for our first baby for a year now. My cycles went from being 28-31 days to being 36 days the last 3 times and now I’m on day 44 with no sign of period and no positive opk (stress? PCOS? Who knows).

So I’ve reached my breaking point; I ended up scheduling a consultation with a reproductive endocrinologist because I don’t have an OB. Now I’m freaking out a little and wondering if I should have seen an OB as the next step instead of going right to the specialist. I’m wondering if they’ll do a bunch of tests that I might not need. I know this sounds silly; I just really want to be able to get pregnant without major interventions. But then if I see an OB and end up needing the specialist, I’ll probably kick myself for not going there in the first place. I just don’t know what to expect.

Has anyone faced this problem and have advice on what to do? My consultation is still over a week away so I could cancel.
